Senior from McKinney, Texas, becomes 15th player in program history to hit 1K
MIAMI (Dec. 31, 2022) – Senior Quincy Noble became just the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, but North Texas was unable to overcome a strong shooting effort by FIU as they fell 86-67 Saturday in the final game of the 2022 calendar year.
Noble finished the contest with a team-high 12 points and became the eighth player in program history to hit 1K in three seasons or less, achieving the feat in just 62 career games at UNT.
At the 6:03 mark in the second quarter, Noble collected a pass from freshman Ereauna Hardaway and hit a driving layup over a defender to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
With the score 9-7 in favor of FIU in the first, the Panthers created early separation with a quick 7-0 run to make the score 16-7 with just over two minutes left in the period.
UNT was able to get the deficit back within four as they spanned the first and second quarters with an 8-2 run fueled by four points from Noble.
FIU answered right back, however, with a 15-4 run highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to 36-21 right before halftime and the Panthers went into the break on top 45-29.
In the third, FIU swelled the lead to as many as 27 after the Panthers outscored UNT 18-7 to open the period.
Down the stretch, UNT closed the contest on a 9-2 run to cut the final deficit down to nine.
Kendall McGruder scored in double figures for the second consecutive game as she produced 11 points to go along with three assists.
Hardaway was solid distributing the basketball, producing a career-best seven assists, the most by any UNT player this season.
Quoting Coach Mitchell
"We didn't go a great job of taking care of the ball. They pressured us hard. We're going to continue to get pressured all year for as long as we handle it like that. We just have to stay together and execute what we should be doing. Honestly, we have to have some leadership and maturity come into play. We need to show that we're learning and that we're growing throughout this season."
