
Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Play WKU

UNT playing inside the Super Pit for the first time since Nov. 29
DENTON, Texas (Jan. 4, 2022) - Coming off a pair of road losses to open conference play, North Texas returns home to play in the Super Pit for the first time since Nov. 29 when they take on Western Kentucky in their C-USA home opener.
It will be the 30th all-time meeting between the two programs with WKU holding a 21-8 lead in the series. The two teams have split each of the last four contests and the last three matchups have come in Denton.
It will be the end of seven consecutive road games for UNT, the longest such stretch since 2010-11.
WKU comes into the contest at 4-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play, handing Rice just its second loss of the season to kick off its conference season. The Hilltoppers have won three of their last five games after starting the year 1-5.
Quick Hitters
- UNT will be looking to avoid starting conference play 0-3 for the first time since 2010-11 when they started Sun Belt play 0-4.
- Senior Quincy Noble leads UNT offensively with 18.1 points per game this season, a figure that ranks second in Conference USA and 44th in Division I. Noble has scored in double figures in each of the last 11 games for North Texas and scored her 1,000th career point on the road last Saturday at FIU.
- Junior Tommisha Lampkin has been one of the top post players in C-USA, sitting second in the league in blocks per game while ranking third in rebounds per game.
- Freshman Ereauna Hardaway ranks third in C-USA with a 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio on the year. She leads the Mean Green with 3.6 assists per game.
- Through 12 games this season, the rebound battle has been an indicator of success for UNT. The Mean Green are 0-9 this season when losing the team rebounding battle and are 3-0 when outrebounding their opponents.
Honing In on the Hilltoppers
- WKU comes into the matchup at 4-7 overall and 1-1 in C-USA play.
- The Hilltoppers started the year 1-5 and have won three of their last five games, including taking down Rice to hand the Owls just their second loss of the season. WKU is coming off a narrow 80-75 loss at home against MTSU last time out.
- Jaylin Foster is the leading scorer for WKU, averaging 10.6 points per game. Foster also leads the Hilltoppers with 6.3 rebounds per game and ranks third in C-USA with 2.3 steals per contest.
- Acacia Hayes is the second-leading scorer for WKU scoring 8.6 points per game. The freshman is coming off a 19-point performance against MTSU last time out.
- WKU is one of the top 3-point shooting teams in Division I, ranking ninth in the country and first in C-USA with 27.7 3-point attempts per game. The Hilltoppers also lead the league with 11.5 steals per contest.
