Townley Leads UNT Past Rice

DENTON, Texas – North Texas women's basketball dropped Rice (7-10, 2-7) on Thursday night inside the Super Pit, 57-50. Madison Townley shattered the school record for most games played in a Mean Green uniform. It was also the first time North Texas had beat Rice in Denton since Jan. 10, 2015.
North Texas won its third consecutive game in C-USA improving to (11-10, 5-6). Townley set a season-high with 13 points which was also a team-best. Tommisha Lampkin gave the Mean Green the spark it needed off the bench finishing with 10 points and five rebounds. They were the only scorers in double figures. UNT turned Rice over 26 times and held them to a season-low four points in first quarter.
North Texas will travel to Houston for its final regular season meeting with Rice. The game is slated for 2 p.m. (CT) inside Tudor Fieldhouse. The game will broadcast on YouTube and Zac Babb will have the call on KNTU 88.1 FM.

"I'm really proud of our effort tonight. The first 20 minutes of the game I thought we executed well on both sides of the court. They set the tone in the second half, but I thought we responded well to that. On the defensive end, we got a ton of huge stops and that's important when shots aren't falling. Rice is a good team, and we were able to hold them to 50 points. That's a good night in my book."
