Tennis Falls to Liberty in Tampa

TAMPA – UNT Tennis (6-2) fell 4-1 to Liberty on Friday. They fought hard through doubles match coming to a tiebreaker to determine the point but let it slip away. Senior Maria Ponomareva and junior Kexuan Zhou won their doubles match 6-4.

DOUBLES

Jasmine Adams and Lucie Devier struggled against Maretha Burger and Tiffany Nguyen falling 6-1.
Saki Oyama and Liisa Vehvilainen battled back-and-forth through the match at the number two position going to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 allowing Liberty the doubles point.
Kexuan Zhou and Maria Ponomareva won their doubles match 6-4 at number three with an early lead.

SINGLES

Adams dominated the court in her singles match winning her first game 6-4 and her second game 6-3.
Zhou struggled through her first game but bounced back in game two before leaving the match ahead but unfinished 4-3.

QUOTABLE

"The momentum changed completely when we were not able to convert on match points in doubles. After that you have got to give Liberty credit. They were the aggressors and wanted it more than us." Said head coach Sujay Lama. "Like we did after the loss at TCU, we will learn from this and be ready for another tough match on Sunday."
