TAMPA – UNT Tennis (6-1) heads to the Sunshine State for a pair of matches. They will face Liberty and South Florida at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts at 11 A.M. on Friday and Sunday respectively.
UNT (6-1) played a near sweep of Middle Tennessee at home on Sunday. The match was full of comebacks and third set tiebreakers. They also beat UTSA last weekend 4-0.
"We have two very tough opponents this upcoming weekend and expect intense competition." Said head coach Sujay Lama. "We have to continue seeking improvement in all areas but especially closing out games in doubles. Slowly but surely, we are gaining confidence and we cannot afford to get complacent. This is our first overnight trip, and we get to spend a few days together. It should be excellent opportunity to build comradery and enjoy the sunshine state."
Liberty (5-3) most recently swept Longwood on Saturday for their third straight win. The Lady Flames are led by M. Juliana P. Romero who is 5-1 in dual singles matches this season, she is on a four-game winning streak. The Lady Flames' head coach Jeff Maren was an assistant coach at UNT from 2006-2012. He helped lead the Mean Green to two conference titles.
USF (1-5) is coming off a close 3-4 loss to SMU last Sunday. The Bulls won their positions one through three singles matches. Freshman Sierra Berry is on a two-games singles winning streak and three-game doubles winning streak. They will face Liberty on Saturday before taking on UNT Sunday.
