SAN ANTONIO, Texas – North Texas women's basketball picked up its first Conference USA road win of the season at UTSA, 70-57. The Mean Green controlled the game from the jump and had a few career days when it needed it most. UNT outscored UTSA in all but the final quarter at the Convocation Center.
The Mean Green got off to the start head coach Jalie Mitchell was looking for. Aly Gamez hit back-to-back three-pointers to get the offense going in the right direction. All of UNT's starters etched their names into the scorebook by the end of the first quarter.
Tommisha Lampkin was doing work in the paint. Lampkin fueled the offense on the low block with Jaylen Mallard picking up two early fouls. The Mean Green were up by as many as 13 points but went on a scoring drought over two and a half minutes. The Roadrunners closed the gap, but North Texas led 30-23 at the break. Lampkin finished the first half with a team-high nine points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal.
In the third period, Gamez caught fire from behind the arc. She hit a pair of timely 3-pointers to extend North Texas' lead to 13. Her fourth 3-pointer of the afternoon set a new career-high in a Mean Green uniform. North Texas led UTSA, 53-40 at the end of the third.

QUOTING HEAD COACH MITCHELL
"It was a great road win for our team. I'm most proud of us for doing the things that help get you over the hump, like making free throws and keeping opponents under 60 points. UTSA plays with a lot of grit, but we were able to close a very important game, which is a huge step in the right direction."
KEEPING TABS
- Townley is No. 1 all-time in school history for most rebounds in a career (795).
- Townley is two games played from becoming No. 1 all-time in UNT history (124).
