ELKHART, Ind. - The North Texas swim team finished out its season on Saturday at the three-day CSCAA National Invitational Championship - an invitational meet of student-athletes who met qualifying standards just shy of the NCAA Championship standard.
The Mean Green were well-represented and took the maximum amount of student-athletes allowed by each school, and there were a handful of standout performances.
Two relays - the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays - finished in the top-20, and the 800 freestyle relay finished 22nd.
Both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams were comprised of London Farris, Shaena McCloud, Cierra Scully and Allison Scott, and they finished 16th and 19th, respectively.
Individually, McCloud, Izabela Zekuciova and Laura Mazzotta stood out with finishes near the top-20. Zekuciova had a personal best in the 50 backstroke (26.31) to finish 23rd and also finished 32nd in the 200 backstroke. McCloud finished 30th in the 100 butterfly while swimming on both of the freestyle relays that notched top-20 finishes. Mazzotta finished 31st in the 200 breaststroke and notched a personal best in the 100 IM (59.18). Another personal best came from Farris, who swam the opening leg of the 400 freestyle relay and notched a personal best for the 100 freestyle in that race.
"We had a great experience at the CSCAA National Invitate competing with some of Division I's top swimming and diving programs," UNT head coach Brittany Roth said. "Our Mean Green student-athletes had a great showing representing UNT on the national stage. Our group that represented our program makes me excited about the future of the program."
