Women's Golf In Pack After Round 1 In Desert

TUCSON, Ariz. - The UNT women's golf team began play on Friday at the MountainView Collegiate by shooting a 1-over-par 289 to sit in seventh place heading into Saturday's second round at MountainView Golf Club.
The Mean Green were led by senior Audrey Tan, who bogeyed the fourth hole before tallying four birdies, including on the 18 hole, to finish the opening round with a 3-under 69. She is tied for 11th place and is one shot up on sophomore teammate Ellie Roth, who shot a 2-under 70. Junior Marija Jucmane, making her spring debut, shot a 2-over 74 and fellow junior Emilie Ricaud's 4-over 76 rounded out the scoring for the Mean Green.
UNT sits one shot up on No. 6 Florida and No. 50 Oklahoma, is three shots clear of No. 29 TCU and four shots ahead of No. 35 Iowa State. The Mean Green are one back of No. 15 Arkansas, who in sixth at even-par.
"Audrey and Ellie had solid rounds today," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "We had the last pairing today, so the greens were bumpy this afternoon. Tomorrow, we should be first off, which hopefully will help us to break par as a team."
The Mean Green will be paired on Saturday with No. 6 Florida and No. 50 Oklahoma, and fans can follow the action live on BirdieFire.
