DENTON, Texas – North Texas Track & Field wrapped up action at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with three season bests and one personal-best time Friday at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.
Â
"It was a pretty good weekend for us," director of track & field Carl Sheffield said. "It's always such an exciting weekend to come to Texas Relays. It's an early part to our season, but we always look forward to coming. The weather's always pretty good, and we tend to get good performances because of the level of competition here. So, we were excited overall about how people did."
Â
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Samir Williams, Davonye Jones, Tyler Walls and Karlington Anunagba got things started by clocking a season-best time of 39.98.
Â
In the women's 100-meter hurdles U/C timed final, Lyric Choice placed 13th out of 61 with a time of 14.28.
Â
Lauren Brown tied her personal best in the women's 100 meters U/C timed final, recording a time of 12.04.
Â
Karlington Anunagba recorded his best time of the season thus far in the men's 100 meters first round, clocking in at 10.49.
Â
To close out the day, the UNT men's 4x400-meter relay team of Clayton Boyce, Davonye Jones, Jordan Coates-McBride and Ziphion Reevey registered a season-best time of 3:15.32.
Â
"It's some of the best competition in the country," Sheffield said. "There are a lot of people in our region that we'll have to face to get to the national championship. So, we got a chance to see some of them. With Alec Esposito in the 1,500m and Makayla Roy in the javelin yesterday, they're at a place now already to where they're really pushing national-qualifying performances. So, we're excited about how they did at this level of competition. It speaks volumes for what's to come the rest of the season."
Â
With UNT action at the Texas Relays completed, the Mean Green now shift their focus to the month of April, which includes the home North Texas Classic on April 9.
Â
"April is a big month for us," Sheffield said. "The level of competition each week continues to grow. We just want to keep raising our game so that by the time we get to the end of the month, we have a few qualifying marks and everybody's just getting better. We're starting to gauge training towards getting to peak performances later on in April and May. It's a promising start, and we're looking forward to the number of consistent competitions that are coming up."
