UNT Selected To Play In Hall of Fame Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts — The North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team will play UMass in the 2022 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday Dec. 17 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
UNT beat the Minutemen 66-57 in the 2021 Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
"We're excited to be part of one of college basketball's premiere events," said North Texas head coach Grant McCasland. "At North Texas we strive to compete at the highest level and to do so on a historic national stage makes it even better. Many thanks to the Naismith Hall of Fame for the opportunity."
The Mean Green are coming off of a program-record 25-win season. They won the 2022 Conference USA West Division regular season title and had the best overall league record at 16-2. The 16 league wins were a program record and they won a program-record 15 straight games during the season. They owned the nation's No. 1 scoring defense, giving up just 55.7 points per game. They reached their first ever National Invitation Tournament and made it to the second round after a 67-63 overtime victory over Texas State. UNT returns starters Rubin Jones and Abou Ousmane as well as Conference USA Six Man of the Year Tylor Perry who led the team in scoring (13.5/game). North Texas has added four newcomers to the mix for this upcoming season.
The Basketball Hall of Fame Classic is one event in the Hall of Fame's series of collegiate events, which continues to grow in an effort to celebrate the game outside the museum walls.
