Soccer Wins Second Exhibition, 4-1

SAN DIEGO — The North Texas women's soccer team won its second straight preseason exhibition match with a 4-1 victory at Point Loma on Saturday night. PLU have not loss a regular season home match in three years.
With the win, the Mean Green left Southern California with a 2-0 preseason record. UNT beat UC Riverside 3-0 on Thursday night in Riverside, California.
On Saturday North Texas got its scoring early with an unassisted goal by fifth-year senior Olivia Klein. The forward has scored 13 career goals in her four seasons in Denton. She scored four goals last year for the Mean Green.
Soon after Klein's first goal, UNT true freshman Summer Brown netted a goal to give UNT a two goal advantage. Brown, an Arlington High School grad, was named the 2022 District MVP as a senior in high school. Brown came off the bench Saturday at Point Loma.
UNT took its 2-0 lead into the second half and later doubled the score.
Junior Taylor Tufts gave the Mean Green a 3-0 lead when she scored off of a Victoria Altieri long throw in. Tufts scored on Thursday in UNT's 2-0 win at UC Riverside. She led the Mean Green last season in points with 20.
North Texas took a 4-0 lead when freshman Kat Burnell scored off of a Madi Drenowatz assist. Burnell is a 2022 Keller High School graduate and was named TASCO All-Region.
Point Loma got on the board in the final minute of the exhibition match.
UNT hosts Abilene Christian on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT. for its season opener. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+. Season tickets are on sale now.
