
Volleyball Collect Second Conference Win at FIU

Mean Green tally its sixth sweep of the season
MIAMI – North Texas collected its second consecutive conference sweep on Sunday with a three-set win over FIU at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
UNT (8-9) improved to 2-0 in Conference USA with the victory over the Panthers (3-12), 25-13, 26-24, 25-18.
Defensively, North Texas continued the dominance it displayed on Friday by limiting FIU to a .095 hitting percentage while collecting a season-high 24 total blocks. Senior Taylor Litteken provided a career-high 10 total blocks with four kills. Truli Levy matched her season-high mark of five denials from the bench. Aleeyah Galdeira finished with 10 digs and five assists.
The Mean Green were led on offense by Treyaunna Rush 14 kills on 21 attacks for a personal-best .619 hitting percentage along with two blocks and two digs. Aryn Johnson provided a strong overall performance with eight kills, eight digs, four blocks and an ace. Sh'Diamond Holly and Andrea Owens tallied four kills apiece.
Ceci Harness posted 21 assists and four digs in her 13th match with 20 or more assists. Alexa Washington added 12 assists with five digs and two kills.
Set 1: North Texas opened the match with a 10-2 flurry including four kills and a block from Rush. The Panthers would cut the lead to six points before UNT mounted a 7-1 scoring run to double the visiting advantage 19-7 late in the opening set. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set before Litteken and Levy combined for a block to close out their opponents, 25-13.
Set 2: FIU responded in the second, opening up a six-point lead of its own at 12-6. The Mean Green fought back with a 9-4 run to pull within a point at 16-15 midway through the second with Rush, Johnson and Avery McCrillis all collecting two kills in the stretch. The home side would rebuild its lead at 22-18 before a timeout by UNT head coach Kristee Porter. North Texas dug in to mount a late 8-2 barrage to steal the frame 26-24 with a 2-0 set advantage.
Set 3: The Mean Green rode its momentum from the previous set for a 7-3 lead to begin the third. The Panthers went on a five-point unanswered run to take the lead before another timely stoppage by Porter. North Texas then went on an 11-1 rush highlighted by four blocks and two kills from Litteken to give her team an 18-10 lead. The two sides would trade points down the stretch with UNT prevailing 25-18 to finish the match.
