
Volleyball Return Home for Meeting with No. 22 Rice

DENTON, Texas – North Texas will host its first Conference USA match of the season with a visit from No. 22 Rice on Friday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
UNT (8-9, 2-0) will return to the North Texas Volleyball Center to face the Owls (12-1, 2-0) after a stretch of road matches, including trips to Oregon, Montana and Florida. North Texas is 6-17 all-time against Rice with the last win coming at home on October 27, 2017.
The Mean Green are on a three-match winning streak including consecutive sweeps of Florida Atlantic and FIU on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The team's defense held its opponents to hitting percentage marks of .085 and .095 in the two matches. Both were the lowest against a C-USA opponent since October 13, 2019 when UNT limited Southern Miss to .058 in three-sets.
Treyanna Rush extended her streak of double-digit kills to 11 matches with 25 total finishes in the two conference contests. Taylor Litteken led the conference with 14 total blocks, including 10 block assists on Sunday, with Aleeyah Galdeira tying the C-USA lead of 30 digs over six sets.
Galdeira is currently in sole possession of seventh place on the UNT career digs list with 1,119. She enters the match needing five digs to pass Valerie Valerian (2017-21) in sixth at 1,123 and 23 to unseat Katy Prokof (2004-07) from fifth place with 1,141.
Rice swept UTSA on Friday and Louisiana Tech on Sunday, extending its unbeaten run to eight matches. Junior libero Nia McCardell collected her fourth C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season on Monday. Middle blocker Anota Adekunle leads the team in both kills (138) and blocks (36) with All-American setter Carly Graham providing 10.10 assists per set.
