Women’s Tennis Set to take on No. 1 Texas, Host DePaul in First Home Match Over Weekend

Mean Green looking for back-to-back 3-0 starts to the dual season
DENTON, Texas (Jan. 19, 2023) – Coming off a strong opening weekend with a pair of 6-1 victories, North Texas women's tennis faces a pair of tough tests over the weekend.
The Mean Green will they travel to Austin to take on defending National Champion and preseason No. 1 Texas at the Texas Tennis Center Friday at noon and then will play their first home match of the 2022-23 season Sunday at noon against DePaul.
UNT will look to start the season 3-0 for the second consecutive year after knocking off Miami (OH) and St. John's in Ft. Myers, Fla. to open the spring dual season.
A pair of North Texas players posted perfect records across singles and doubles over the weekend in senior Kexuan Zhou and freshman Gloria Alogo Piqueras. The duo played together at line three doubles and earned wins in their matchups.
In singles play, Zhou did not drop a set in a pair of contests at line six while Alogo won her first contest in sweeping fashion before coming from behind for a thrilling three set win against SJU while playing at line three.
Along with Zhou and Alogo, sophomore Jasmine Adams, freshman Matilde Morais and freshman Olivia Halvorsen were also posted perfect 2-0 singles records at lines one, two and five, respectively.
Scouting the Opponents

- Texas is coming off an extremely impressive 26-4 overall record in 2021-22, winning the NCAA Division I National title for the second consecutive season.
- The contest will be the first dual match of the 2023 season for the Longhorns.
- Texas is the No. 1 team in the ITA Preseason Poll. It is the first matchup for UNT against a ranked opponent since taking on No. 20 Baylor in March of 2022.
- DePaul finished last season with a 9-9 overall record and went 4-3 in Big East play.
- The Blue Demons finished 2021-22 strong, earning a spot in the Big East Championship match.
- It will be the second matchup of 2022-23 for DePaul as they open their season Friday afternoon in Beaumont, Texas against Lamar.
- Free Pizza and "Lamanade" will be given to fans in attendance for Sunday's home opener.
- Admission is free to all home matches in the 2023 spring dual season.
