
Women’s Tennis Plays Host to Lamar and Midwestern State Saturday

UNT looks to start season 5-1 for the second straight year
DENTON, Texas (Jan. 27, 2023) – Coming off a strong 7-0 sweep of DePaul last Saturday, UNT returns to the court with a doubleheader against Lamar and Midwestern State at Waranch Tennis Complex Saturday with the first matchup at 11:00 AM with the second coming at 3:00 PM.
The Mean Green will be looking to start the season 5-1 for the second straight season.
UNT heads into the contest with a 17-4 record in singles matches this year, led by perfect 3-0 records from both Matilde Morais and Kexuan Zhou.
In doubles play, the Mean Green are 5-4 this season, highlighted by a 2-1 record from the combination of Morais and Jasmine Adams as well as a perfect 2-0 mark from Zhou and Gloria Alogo Piqueras.
In their three wins this season, North Texas has lost just two total points and are looking to capture three straight wins at the Ranch.
Lamar comes into the matchup at 1-2 overall this season. The Cardinals are coming off a win over Sam Houston State last time out after opening the season with losses against DePaul and fellow C-USA opponent Rice.
Lamar finished last season at 10-11 overall and posted a 1-4 record in WAC play.
After facing off with the Cardinals, UNT takes on Midwestern State who will be playing in their first contest of the 2023 campaign.
The Mustangs went 19-9 in 2021-22 with a 6-3 record in the Lonestar Conference. MSU also earned a bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional a season ago.
