Mean Green will compete at Texas A&M for final regular season meet
DENTON, Texas – UNT cross country is set for its final conference tune-up on Friday at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas.
Â
"We're trying to get into that fine tuning side of things before the conference meet," UNT cross country coach Erik Stevens said. "We're about two weeks out from conference, so I really want to see exactly where we're at on the fitness side of things. I know we're fit, but I want to see how far we need to still move forward."
Â
It will be a 42-team field at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course, with the Mean Green competing against host Texas A&M, Arkansas State, Baylor, Boston College, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Indiana, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisville, LSU, Marshall, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Nicholls State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, TAMU Corpus Christi, TAMU Texarkana, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, Toledo, Tulane, UCF, UCLA, Utah Valley, UT-Arlington, UTEP, UTRGV, UTSA and Youngstown State.Â
Â
"We're putting this one together to be aggressive with it," Stevens said. "I think it's a good opportunity to do it. There are 13 or 14 teams that are ranked in the South Central region that will be there with us, so I really want to see how we stack up in that regard. I think we can hold our own very well in the field."
Â
The UNT men's team will feature Victor Neiva, Mason Garner, Luke Canon, Alan Proenza, Jake Meyering, Hardy Swann and Aiden Kirkpatrick.
Â
"On the men's side, we're going to be aggressive up front and then kind of work through the back half," Stevens said. "In between 4K and 5K, we're going to make a decision during the race. When they feel comfortable pushing, we're going to push."
Â
Representing the Mean Green women's team will be Aditi Silwal, Trinity Trotter, Tiblets Abreha, Miranda Vreeland, Marisa Jacober and Amy Pritchard.
Â
"I think the women are in a really solid spot right now," Stevens said. "We've had a really solid week of training, so I'm pretty excited to see what they can come out and do tomorrow. I want to kind of see where we're at individually. Everybody has a very individual race plan for tomorrow on the women's side, and I want to see them execute where they need to be within the field."
Â
Live results from Texas A&M will be provided at FlashResults.com. The men's 8K will get things started at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 9:15 a.m.
