DENTON, Texas – UNT cross country embarks on the postseason as the Mean Green will compete in the 2023 American Conference Championship Saturday in Grimesland, N.C.
Â
"I'm excited for it," UNT cross country coach Erik Stevens said. "I think we're ready to go. We've had a solid block of training since the A&M meet, and I think we're in a good spot to be able to get after it a little bit, kind of attack some things and perform to the ability that we're capable of moving into a championship meet."
Â
Competing for the men's team will be Victor Neiva, Mason Garner, Luke Canon, Alan Proenza, Jake Meyering, Jake Johnson, Aiden Kirkpatrick, Hardy Swann and Landin Wolfe.
Â
"On the men's side, we're going to try to get after it as best as we can and be in a position to come out of here top three or better," Stevens said. "We think we're in a really good spot to be able to do that. We just have to go out and run a tough race. We have to probably run the toughest that we've ever run, especially for a lot of these young guys that haven't been in this situation. But I think they're ready. They've shown that over the course of the season and how they've been progressing, and then coming out the A&M meet I think they're a little bit more confident to be able to go out and take themselves to a different level."
Â
The women's team will be represented by Aditi Silwal, Trinity Trotter, Tiblets Abreha, Addison Sykora. Amy Pritchard, Miranda Vreeland and Marisa Jacober.
Â
"On the ladies' side, I think most of them are feeling pretty healthy," Stevens said. "We're pretty confident. They had a really solid couple workouts last week to be able to bring the confidence level up. I think they can surprise some people, especially the front end of the ladies group. I think they can be in the mix for some all-conference accolades. If you have one or two that are in that mix, then you can come out of it pretty good as long as we stay confident through it."
Â
The men's 8K will begin at 8:15 a.m. CT, followed by the women's 6K at 9 a.m. CT. Live results will be provided by Event Timing Solutions LLC, and the meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
