DENTON, Texas – UNT cross country runner Victor Neiva will go head-to-head with the best in the country at the NCAA Championships at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday morning.
This is Neiva's second consecutive appearance at the national meet after earning an automatic bid with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on Nov. 10. Last season, Neiva placed 10th at the regional meet but needed an at-large bid to qualify for the NCAA Championships where he would place 193rd.
The UNT senior will compete against the best of the best in the men's 10K that begins at 10:10 a.m. CT on Saturday. The top 40 finishers will earn All-America honors, an accolade Neiva is focused on.
"We're super excited to have him get back there for a second time and we've talked about it since last year," cross country coach Erik Stevens said. "He knows what he did wrong last year at the national meet and his whole goal is to be an All-American this year. If he runs as aggressive as he did today, we will be able to make that happen.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be aired on ESPNU beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT. The women's 6K race will be run first at 9:20 a.m. followed by the men's race at 10:10.
