
Women’s Tennis Takes Down USF & DBU, Pushes Home Win Streak to Seven

UNT with longest home win streak since 2011-12 season
DENTON, Texas (Feb. 19, 2023) – The UNT women's tennis program continued its strong play at home, pushing its home winning streak to seven straight matches as the Mean Green defeated USF 4-2 and DBU 4-0 Sunday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
The seven match home win streak for the Mean Green is the longest for UNT since the 2011-12 season when they won 11 consecutive matches at the Ranch en route to the Sun Belt Conference title.
UNT was led by Matilde Morais on the day who picked up a pair of singles wins at line two and also posted a perfect 2-0 record at line one doubles.
In the first match against USF, the Mean Green and the Bulls split lines two and three in doubles play as Gloria Alogo Piqueras and Nformi Stadfany picked up a 6-4 win at line three to tie things up.
At line one, Morais and Adams were able to rally from an early deficit and grab a 6-4 win to give UNT the doubles point.
After USF tied things up at 1-1, Olivia Malm put UNT back on top with an impressive straight sets 6-1, 6-4 victory at line four.
Minutes later, Adams made the score 3-1 with a thrilling 6-2, 7-5 victory at line one. The sophomore out of Australia improved her record to 8-3 in singles matches this season.
The Bulls were able to grab a win at line six to cut the deficit back down to 3-2, but UNT clinched the team match with another straight sets win from Morais at line two. The freshman out of Portugal won 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 to give UNT the team win.
The second match of the day saw three new doubles combinations for UNT as Morais teamed up with Kexuan Zhou at line one, Adams and Nformi Stadfany played on line two and Marina Adati and Malm competed at line three.
The combinations of Morais and Zhou and Adams and Stadfany both were able to pick up wins over the Patriots, winning 6-3 and 6-2, respectively to give UNT the doubles point.
In singles, Morais continued her dominant play this season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at line two. This season, Morais is now a perfect 9-0 in singles play and has only dropped two total sets on the year.
Playing at line five, Stadfany gave UNT its third point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets win.
Moments later, Zhou clinched the win for the Mean Green with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Zhou also remained unbeaten this season, improving her singles record to 7-0.
