
Women’s Tennis Opens C-USA Play with Road Matchup Against FIU

Mean Green going for third straight win
MIAMI (Feb. 25, 2023) – For the first time in the 2023 spring campaign, UNT tennis will compete in a dual match against a fellow C-USA opponent as they travel to Miami to take on No. 45 FIU Sunday at 11:00 AM CT.
The Mean Green head into the contest coming off a pair of wins last Sunday against USF and DBU as they look to open conference play with a win for the second straight year.
It will be the third true road contest of the year for UNT as the Mean Green have dropped a pair of matches against Texas and Liberty on their home floor earlier this season.
Freshman Matilde Morais continues to lead the Mean Green in singles play with a perfect 9-0 record. One more win for Morais would set a new the school record for the most consecutive wins to start a career with 10.
Senior Kexuan Zhou is also still unbeaten in singles play at 7-0. Zhou has had success across a number of lines throughout the season with a 2-0 record at both lines four and five as well as a 3-0 record at line six.
Additionally, both Jasmine Adams and Olivia Malm are second on the team in singles wins this season with eight victories apiece.
In doubles play, the combination of Morais and Adams has posted an 8-1 record this season and have won eight straight matchups dating back to the season opener.
As a team, UNT heads into Sunday with a 45-15 record in singles play and 22-10 in doubles competition.

- The Panthers are ranked No. 45 overall in the latest ITA Team poll and also have a win over #18 UCLA.
- The lone common opponent this season between the Mean Green and the Panthers is Liberty. FIU took home a 4-3 win in their matchup while UNT fell 4-0.
- FIU went 17-5 in 2021-22 and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
