Sophomore will compete for the national championship in the women’s shot put
DENTON, Texas – ÂKeAyla Dove will compete for the national championship in the women's shot put as the NCAA has officially announced the qualifiers for the 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, taking place March 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Â
Dove will be making her second-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Last season at Sam Houston, she made her debut and finished in fifth place in the women's shot put. She is the fourth student-athlete in UNT history to earn a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships, and first since Keyth Talley in 2010.
Â
Dove has rewritten the school record book in her first season for the Mean Green, most recently raising the UNT women's shot put record to 58-3.75 (17.77m) en route to finishing as the Conference USA runner-up. The sophomore from Houston, Texas, has finished in the top-2 in every meet this season, including a victory at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open. She has been named Conference USA Women's Field Athlete of the Week twice, on Jan. 24 and again on Feb. 7. Dove enters the NCAA meet ranked No. 10 in the country.
Â
The NCAA Indoor Championships will close the indoor season for Dove and the Mean Green. Live results from the Albuquerque Convention Center will be provided by Flash Results. Most of the UNT team will open the outdoor season March 10 at the UNT vs. UTA Dual, with the official slate beginning with the TCU Invitational the following weekend, March 17-18.
