
Men's Basketball Sends Seniors Out With 34-Point Win

DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team held Western Kentucky to its fewest points scored in 77 years on Saturday as they closed out the regular season with a 67-33 senior day home win over the Hilltoppers.
The Mean Green, who tied the program record for single season wins (25) and league wins (16) Saturday, held WKU to 13-of-47 (27.7 percent) shooting from the floor and 2-of-11 (18.2 percent) shooting from deep.
"That went about as well as it could have gone," said senior Tyree Eady who scored eight points and dished out five assists in the win. "This season has been awesome and that was a perfect way to end the regular season."
UNT (25-6, 16-4), which honored its five seniors before the game Saturday, held WKU (16-15, 8-12) to its fewest points scored since Jan. 19, 1947 when Murray State held them to 27.
The four UNT seniors who played combined for 30 of the Mean Green's 67 points. Tylor Perry led all scorers with 19 points. He scored 17 in the first half after making four of his seven first half 3-point attempts.
North Texas ended the first half on a 15-2 run to take a 20-point lead into the half and essentially put the game away.
North Texas entered Saturday's game featuring the nation's second-best scoring defense by holding its previous 30 opponents this season to an average of just 56.1 points per game. After Saturday's performance, they are now holding opponents to just 55.4 points per game.
UNT heads into the 2023 Conference USA Championship as the No. 2 overall seed and winners of 10 of its last 11. They earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of the No. 7 vs. No. 10 game on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT.
