
Track & Field: Sloan Sets School Record at North Texas Classic

Mean Green registered eight event titles.
DENTON, Texas – Madison Sloan smashed the school record in the women's hammer throw en route to winning the event title to highlight the day for UNT Track & Field Saturday at the North Texas Classic at the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.

Sloan launched a hammer throw of 190-9 (58.15m) to break Haley Walker's record of 185-9, set April 16, 2021 in Waco, Texas. In addition to beating the record by five feet, Sloan also set a new personal record by 21 feet (over six meters). The sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, won the event title by more than 27 feet. Macayla Needham placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 162-0 (49.38m).

Jaleisa Shaffer had a banner day on her senior day, taking home event titles in both the shot put and discus. The Amarillo, Texas, native recorded an outdoor personal best of 53-0.25 (16.16m) in the shot put, and a mark of 158-1 (48.19m) in the discus. Needham finished third in the shot put with a mark of 45-4 (13.82m), while KeAyla Dove took third in the discus with a throw of 153-0 (46.64m).

Wardell Glaspie took the win on his senior day as well in the men's discus, registering a mark of 180-9 (55.10m). Kevin Grubbs finished second with a throw of 179-9 (54.79m).

Brock Hottel was also victorious on his senior day, winning the men's pole vault title with a jump of 16-6.75 (5.05m).

Jake Parchman was the first winner of the day, taking first in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 192-2 (58.57m).

Vitus Hansgaard became the No. 3 all-time javelin thrower at UNT as he earned the event championship, recording a mark of 215-5 (65.65m). Zion Hill was the runner-up with a throw of 214-1 (65.26m).

Jordan Coates-McBride won the title in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.36.

In the women's javelin, Mackenzie Kuehl moved to the No. 5 spot in UNT history with a throw of 142-5 (43.41m), finishing as the event runner-up.

Chinazaekpere Okoye took second in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.07, the women's 4x100-meter relay team of Tamyah Derrough, Janai Williams, Alika Crawford, Lauren Brown took second with a time of 45.38, and Kennedy Adams placed third in the women's triple jump on her senior day with a mark of 40-3.75 (12.29m).

The final event of the day proved to be the most dramatic, as Kendahl Tucker came from behind to lift the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Charlize Bartholomeaux, Alika Crawford, Macy Burnham and Tucker to the event title with a time of 3:44.77. Tucker also recorded a runner-up finish earlier in the day in the women's 400 meters with a time of 55.12.

In the final regular season home event of the season, the Mean Green honored seniors Karlington Anunagba, Spencer Boykin, Antonio Delacruz, Wardell Glaspie, Natasha Corkerton-Purchas, Charlotte Kerr, Sam Konen, Macayla Needham, Nazah Reddick, Jaleisa Shaffer, Glenquoia Hardy, and Kennedy Adams.
