
T&F Sends 11 to NCAA West Preliminary Rounds

Dove, Anunagba rank in the top 12 in the region
DENTON, Texas – Eleven UNT track & field student-athletes have earned a spot at regionals and will compete Wednesday through Saturday (May 24-27) at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Sacramento, Calif.
KeAyla Dove enters the West prelims ranked No. 3 in the region and No. 8 in the World with a school-record shot put of 62-02.25 (18.95m). The junior from Houston, Texas, captured her first-ever Conference USA title with her performance at the C-USA Championships in Denton.
Jaleisa Shaffer ranks No. 39 in the shot put with a mark of 53-0.25 (16.16m). The senior from Amarillo, Texas, earned the C-USA bronze medal with her performance at the conference championships and also scored in the discus. The women's shot put first round will take place Thursday at 8 p.m. CT.
In the women's hammer throw, Madison Sloan takes her school-record mark of 192-10 (58.79m) to Sacramento as the No. 41-ranked thrower. The sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, scored in the discus at the conference meet. The women's hammer throw first round will be Thursday at 12 p.m. CT.
Lauren Brown secured a spot in the women's 100 meters as she ranks No. 48 with a time of 11.49. The sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, scored with an eighth-place finish at the conference championships. The women's 100 meters first round will be Thursday at 9 p.m. CT, with the quarterfinals taking place Saturday at 8:35 p.m. CT.
Karlington Anunagba leads the way on the men's side as a double qualifier (100 meters and 200 meters). The senior from Lagos, Nigeria, is No. 7 in the West with a school-record 100-meter time of 10.08 and No. 24 in the 200 meters with a time of 20.62. Anunagba was the Conference USA runner-up in the 100m, and he also scored in the 200m. The men's 100 meters first round will take place Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT, and the men's 200 meters first round will be Wednesday at 10:45 p.m. CT. The quarterfinals for the 100 and 200 will be contested Friday at 8:35 p.m. CT and 9:50 p.m. CT, respectively.
Wardell Glaspie will enter as the No. 17-ranked discus thrower in the West with a mark of 192-10 (58.79m). The senior from Tatum, Texas, placed fourth at the conference meet.
Kevin Grubbs, the Conference USA silver medalist in the men's discus, is ranked No. 22 in the West with a throw of 190-6 (58.06m). The men's discus first round will begin Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
Zion Hill, the reigning three-time C-USA Champion in the men's javelin, is ranked 20th heading into the meet with a mark of 221-7 (67.53m).
Vitus Hansgaard, the C-USA runner-up in the men's javelin, stands at No. 31 with a throw of 215-5 (65.65m). The men's javelin first round will take place Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Brock Hottel is No. 25 in the West in the men's pole vault with a mark of 17-4.25 (5.29m). The senior from Purcell, Okla., was the runner-up at the C-USA Championships. The men's pole vault first round will be contested Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. CT.
Jake Parchman will get UNT action started Wednesday in the men's hammer throw at 12 p.m. CT. The senior from Odessa, Texas, is No. 44 in the hammer with a school-record throw of 204-4 62.29m. Parchman scored in the discus at the C-USA meet.
The 11 student-athletes competing for UNT at the West Regional is the most since the Mean Green had 12 at the 2014 West Preliminaries.
The NCAA West Preliminary Rounds will be streamed live on ESPN+ each day, only including events occurring inside Hornet Stadium (no throws) during the scheduled hours. The links are as follows: Wednesday (starting at 8 p.m. CT); Thursday (starting at 8 p.m. CT); Friday (starting at 7 p.m. CT); and Saturday (starting at 7 p.m. CT).
Live results from Sacramento will be provided by the NCAA. Twelve competitors from each individual event will advance from each First Round site. Those who qualify will be announced and posted on NCAA.com the week prior to Championships competition. The 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
