
Track & Field Heads to Albuquerque for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational

DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's and women's track & field teams will travel to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center Saturday.
The Mean Green are coming off their season opener in Houston that saw them earn 13 top-five placements, including three champions. KeAyla Dove took home the women's shot put title, while Sukeil Foucha won the men's 800 meters in his first race at UNT and the men's 4x400-meter relay captured gold.
In addition, thrower Jake Parchman set a new school record in the weight throw with a mark of 19.30m in a runner-up finish.
Following the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invite, four UNT athletes lead the American Athletic Conference in their respective events. Dove and Foucha's winning marks put them atop the conference, while Deja Shaw-Huckaby's 200-meter time of 24.22 and Allison Stigarll's personal best of 17.30m in the weight throw are also ranked No. 1 in the conference.
Turning its attention to this meet, UNT will send 39 student-athletes to New Mexico, with 23 registered to compete on the women's side and 16 men set to go on Saturday. The Mean Green will compete an elite field including Texas, Arizona, UCLA , Texas State, New Mexico and others.
"I think this weekend is a great opportunity for athletes to see some great competition," head coach Doug Marshall said. "We have talked a lot about competing and executing our events at the highest level. We challenged our team not to get complacent after last week's opener and they have practiced well this week. I'm excited to see how we return at this meet."
Saturday's meet will get underway starting at 9 a.m. CT beginning with high jump and shot put. The track events are scheduled to begin shortly after at 9:20 a.m. CT with the men's 3,000 meters and set to conclude with the women's 4x400 relay at 5 p.m. CT.
The meet will be streamed on FloTrack for subscribers, while live results can be found on golobos.com.
