Women’s Basketball Falls to UTSA in Overtime, 75-67

UNT’s conference winning streak gets broken at seven games.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team (17-4, 7-2 AAC) saw its seven-game winning streak snapped in a 75-67 overtime loss on the road to UTSA Wednesday night.
The Mean Green struggled from the field for the majority of the night shooting a season-low 29% from the field for the game. Even with the offensive struggles, UNT found itself within striking distance late in the fourth quarter.
After trailing by seven at the half, UNT found itself within two after back-to-back 3-point plays from Dyani Robinson and Tommisha Lampkin. At the 7:08 mark in the fourth quarter, Aniyah Johnson converted one-of-two free throws to give North Texas its first lead since the 3:51 mark of the second quarter.
The Roadrunners would tie it up, but a Mean Green stop with 22 seconds left gave them a chance to win the game in regulation. Dyani Robinson drove to the rim, but a contested layup rimmed out. Tommisha Lampkin got a second look before the buzzer after an offensive rebound but couldn't convert.
From there, UTSA outscored North Texas 19-11 in the overtime period, handing UNT its first loss since December 30. Idara Udo posted a double double for UTSA with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The conference leaders in blocked shots, the Roadrunners had six blocks to UNT's three, and held Tommisha Lampkin and DesiRay Kernal to a combined 3-of-23 on the night.
UNT had four scorers reach double figures, led by Dyani Robinson with 18 points. In addition, Jaaucklyn Moore had 12, while Ereauna Hardaway and Shamaryah Duncan each had 10.
The Mean Green will look to get back into the win column on Sunday when they travel to face Tulsa at 2 p.m. CT.

"We didn't come out ready to play. We talked about starting games the right way and we knew they were going to be physical. I think I said in the pregame talk that they're going to be so physical that a lot of things are going to happen within plays and aren't going to get called. They were willing to take some fouls to set the tone. They punched us in the mouth in the first half, got into our heads and we didn't play how we can play."
