HOUSTON - The UNT divers competed in the Houston Diving Invite on Friday and Saturday and left with several strong performances under their belts.
The Mean Green were led, again, by junior Kamryn Wong, who won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events on Friday to move her streak to 6-for-6 in springboard events as a member of the Mean Green.
Wong set a school record in the 1-meter with a score of 311.35 and also took first in the 3-meter with a score of 309.80. On Saturday, she ended up finishing ninth in platform, in what was the team's first time this season to compete or practice in the event.
UNT also got another diver through to NCAA Zones in the spring, as sophomore Sydney Guidara earned her 3-meter Zone cut with a fourth-place finish. She added a fifth-place finish in the 1-meter event and was the team's best performer on platform with a sixth-place showing.
In the Team Diving event on Saturday, UNT finished third behind two Houston teams, as the team of Valeria Hernandez Meza, Amelia Sharp and Guidara scored 245.85 points.
"I'm really proud of all the divers this weekend," said associate head coach/diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan. "We had some really outstanding performances with Kam winning both springboard events and setting a school record, along with Sydney getting her 3-meter zone cut and so many great individual dives from everyone throughout the weekend. The ladies did amazing on tower for our first opportunity to practice and compete it. It's still early in the season, but everyone has shown so much growth and potential. I'm excited for the next few weeks of training to lock in for our November meets and gain some consistency."
