DENTON – The UNT men's and women's cross country teams both landed at No. 10 in the USTFCCA's Regional Rankings announced on Monday morning.
The Mean Green women appeared in the rankings in the NCAA South Central Regional for the first time this season after outperforming multiple regional rivals at the Arturo Barrios Invitational. Four UNT women, including Ximena Lopez de Escalera who led the ladies, posted times that now sit in the top 10 of the program's 6K performance list. In total, nine of the 10 runners representing the women's team at the Arturo Barrios clocked personal bests in the event.
At No. 10, UNT earned its highest ranking since the end of the 2017 season when the ladies finished ninth at the NCAA South Central Regional.
The UNT men also received the team's highest ranking of the season and its best since Oct. 16, 2023. The Mean Green were ranked No. 12 in the preseason, but had not appeared in another ranking until Monday.
Victor Neiva led the North Texas men with a 30th-place finish at the Arturo Barrios Invitational over the weekend. Neiva's time of 23:40.4 is the second-fastest 8K time of his career and in program history, only behind his time from last season's AAC Championships.
Eight Mean Green men recorded personal bests in the 8K in College Station with Connor Bartek and Iain Salter both cracking the program's all-time list in the event.
The next meet for UNT will be the American Athletic Championships hosted by Wichita State University on Nov. 2.
