DENTON - Sophomore diver Sydney Guidara continued to etch her name in the program record books over the weekend in a dual meet win over Rice.
Guidara shattered the program record in the 3-meter springboard to earn first place in the event with a score of 350.78, which beat her previous personal best by 42 points. She also got second in the 1-meter springboard, beating her previous best by 16 points, and setting what would've been a program record in the event at the beginning of the year if not for her teammate, Kamryn Wong, breaking the record twice - the second time to beat Guidara on Friday night. Guidara also earned her NCAA Zone cut in the 1-meter event with her runner-up finish.
Wong won the weekly award last month, giving UNT its first weekly award from the conference since joining the AAC prior to the 2022-23 season, and Guidara's nod marks the second one in a month.
"Sydney has so much grit and determination," said associate head coach/diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan. "I'm so proud of her and the work she's put in toward her goals. She performed lights out on Friday against Rice. Since her breakout performance at conference last year, it's only been a matter of time to see her step into her own and compete with the strength and consistency she showed on Friday."
Guidara and her diving teammates will return to action this weekend in Austin at the Longhorn Diving Invite, which will run Friday-Sunday.
