
Tennis Welcomes No. 70 UTSA, Cowley to Denton for Saturday Doubleheader

Mean Green set to play third consecutive ranked opponent
DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's tennis team will keep its tough stretch of matches going on Saturday when it takes on its third straight ranked opponent, No. 70 UTSA, as well as the 2022-23 junior college national runner-up, Cowley County, in a doubleheader at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
The Mean Green face off against the Roadrunners at 11:00 AM and follow it up with the contest against the Tigers starting at 4:00 PM.
UNT heads into the matchup with a 26-27 overall record in singles play while sitting 18-11 in doubles. Carolina Laydner leads the way in singles play with a 6-1 record, grabbing wins at lines four, five and six.
In doubles, the combination of Lilly Schultz and Lou Chalard is 7-3 while Olivia Halvorsen and Stadfany Nformi are 6-3.
UTSA heads into the contest 7-2 overall but have lost two of their last three contests against UNLV and Rice. The Roadrunners have had a balanced attack all season with a 28-11 mark in singles play and a 17-3 record in doubles.
Aleksandra Zlatarova leads the charge at No. 1 singles with a 4-2 record while teaming up with Cassie McLay for a perfect 6-0 mark in doubles.
Cowley heads into the contest with a 4-2 record with their lone two losses coming against Tarleton State and Central Oklahoma.
The Tigers have had a strong pedigree in women's tennis, finishing inside the top-five in the NJCAA National Championship each of the past four seasons, including a runner-up finish in 2023.
