SOUTH ORANGE, New Jersey — The UNT men's basketball team's season came to an end on Saturday with a 72-58 loss at Seton Hall in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
The Mean Green (19-15) got a game-high 23 points from Jason Edwards, his 14th 20-point game of the year, but shot just 34.9 percent from the floor as a team. The Pirates (22-12) advance to the tournament's quarterfinal round. They had four different players score in double figures led by Dre Davis' 18.
"We have a ton of respect for (Seton Hall) head coach Shaheen Holloway and what he's done and the team they've built," said UNT head coach Ross Hodge. "I'm super proud of how our team fought in the final four minutes of the game, diving for balls, getting steals, playing hard. Despite the score they stayed together and kept fighting. I'll remember that forever."
Hodge finishes his first season as UNT's head coach with 19 wins, it's the third-most wins by a first-year Mean Green head coach. The 10 league wins North Texas had this year is a program-record for a first-year UNT head coach.
Edwards finishes the year with 650 points scored, the fifth-most in a single season in program history. He knocked down 84 3-pointers this season, which is the sixth-most in a single season.
