DENTON, Texas – UNT track and field will split up and compete at three meets in California over the weekend as the Mean Green near the end of the regular season.
Following the Bill Schmidt Classic where UNT had 13 event winners, the team will face a step up in competition at the Pacific Coast Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The long weekend will begin on Thursday at Long Beach State University for the Pacific Coast Invite. North Texas will have 18 student-athletes competing in the one-day meet with the majority of them being sprinters or jumpers.
Rayona Runnels will lead a group of women's jumpers into competition looking to make a statement Thursday morning. Runnels won the Mean Green Invitational, while Glenquioa Hardy, Jasmyn Reece and Kennedy Adams finished third, fourth and fifth. They will be first up for North Texas with the women's long jump set to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
UNT's track athletes will compete throughout Thursday afternoon to wrap up the first of their two meets. A short turnaround will follow with the Bryan Clay Invitational beginning Friday at Azusa Pacific University.
North Texas will welcome the return of AAC indoor champion Sukeil Foucha. Since winning the 800 meters at the conference meet in February, Foucha has only competed a handful of times. He will be making his outdoor season debut in the 800 meters and also running the 400 meters at the meet.
Foucha will be joined by Luke Canon in the men's 800 meters on Friday afternoon. Allison Stigarll, Aditi Silwal and Mason Garner will also be competing on the first day of competion at the Bryan Clay. Silwal and Garner will be running the 1,500 meters, while Stigarll will look to continue moving up the UNT record list in the hammer throw.
Distance runner Connor Bartek will be competing in the 5,000 meters at the Beach Invite, which is also hosted by Long Beach State University on Friday. He will be the lone Mean Green athlete competing at the meet.
Saturday's action at Azusa Pacific will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT and continue throughout the afternoon. The Bryan Clay Invitational will be streamed on FloTrack.
