Okoye Leads Mean Green at Pacific Coast Invitational

Sophomore hurdler posts fourth fastest time in school history
AZUSA, Calif. – Chinazaekpere Okoye continued to climb up the program record list in the 400-meter hurdles to lead UNT track and field at the Pacific Coast Invitational in Long Beach, California on Thursday.
The sophomore hurdler clocked the fourth fastest time in program history on Thursday, posting a 58.56 in a third-place finish. She now holds the fastest time in the American Athletic Conference and ranks just outside the top-30 in the nation.
Okoye's placement was tied for the highest of the day for UNT individuals alongside Aariyana Williams in the 400-meter dash. Kendahl Tucker also placed in the top five of the 400 meters coming in right behind Williams.
The men's 4x100-meter relay consisting of Samir Williams, Jaylen Washington, Justin Walden and Jared Johnson took second with a time of 40.22.
Other notable finishes include Johnson taking seventh and Washington placing 11th in the 100 meters. Kennedy Adams and Nakiya Marshall also posted top-10 finishes in the women's triple jump.
Connor Bartek rounded out UNT's stay at Long Beach State University by winning the men's 5,000 meters Friday afternoon. The true freshman clocked a personal best and the fastest time at the Beach Invitational since 2015 with a 14:36.92. The Mean Green will have a short turnaround with the Bryan Clay Invitational beginning Friday and rolling into Saturday at Azusa Pacific University.
