DENTON, Texas – The UNT track and field team will head south to compete on Friday and Saturday in the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
The Mean Green are coming off a trip to California that saw the team compete in multiple meets in the Los Angeles area. Connor Bartek won the 5,000 meters at the Beach Invitational, while C'Nai Childress and Allison Stigarll continued to move up the program's performance list in their respective events.
North Texas will be taking a young group to Waco as a handful of sprinters will be resting as the team heads into the final stretch of the outdoor season. Among those getting the weekend off will be Childress and men's sprinters Jared Johnson, Jaylen Washington and Samir Williams.
Field events will begin at 11 a.m. CT on Friday with Stigarll and Zoe Young competing in the women's hammer throw. Last week, Stigarll took fourth at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a personal-best throw of 57.19 meters. She has set a new personal best in four consecutive meets heading into this weekend and currently sits No. 3 in the American Athletic Conference.
The running events will begin with the 400-meter hurdles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Following that will be the 200 meters, 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters to close out the night. North Texas will be loaded in the final two events with 12 representatives across the men's and women's distance races.
Saturday will run on a similar schedule with the remainder of the field events beginning at 11 a.m. CT. The second day of competition will consist of the javelin, triple jump, high jump and shot put. Events on the track will start earlier in the day opening with the 4x100-meter relays, although UNT won't be featured until the 3,000-meter steeplechase at approximately 1:15 p.m. CT.
The meet is scheduled to conclude around 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Clyde Hart Classic will feature over 20 teams, including Big 12 schools such as Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma State.
