Soccer Announces 2024 Schedule Ahead Of Hedlund's 30th Season

DENTON — Entering his 30th season at the helm of the UNT soccer team, the school's all-time winningest head coach John Hedlund announced a loaded 2024 slate as he is just seven wins shy of his 400th career victory.
Hedlund, who founded the program in 1995, and his 16-time conference championship squad will host Oklahoma (Aug. 15), Alabama (Aug. 18) and notable conference opponents such as Florida Atlantic (Sept. 12), UTSA (Oct. 3), South Florida (Oct.20) and Memphis (Oct. 27) this season.
In total, North Texas will play 18 regular season matches, 10 of which will be at home. UNT's first four regular season matches are all at the UNT Soccer and Track & Field Complex in Denton.
UNT's season opener is Aug. 15 at home versus Oklahoma. North Texas is 6-3-1 all-time versus the Sooners and 26-2-1 all-time in home openers.
Prior to its season opener, UNT will play two exhibition matches on the road at Colorado State on Aug. 8 and at Colorado on Aug. 10.
The 2024 American Athletic Conference championship will once again be held in Lakewood Ranch, Florida from Nov. 5-10.
When Hedlund reaches the 400-win mark, he will become just the 20th DI women's soccer head coach ever reach that win total. He enters the 2024 season with 393 career wins, which ranks 11th among active head coaches.
With soon to be 30 years under his belt all at UNT, Hedlund is the 12-longest active tenured head coach in the country.
In his 29 full seasons at North Texas, Hedlund has never had a losing season. He and legendary North Carolina head coach Anson Dorrance are the only active head coaches who have never had a losing season while coaching at just one university for over 20 years.
