DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's track and field team added two more newcomers for the 2024-25 season in Division II transfer Clarence McGill and high school signee Kason Johnson.
Originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, McGill has run his first two collegiate seasons at Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina. In his final meet for the Bears, McGill collected a pair of All-America honors with seventh-place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay. His 400-meter time of 51.16 was a personal best and the fastest time in school history.
While primarily focusing on hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay, McGill also ran the 400 meters on occasion. Shortly after winning a conference title in the relay and 400-meter hurdles, he posted a personal best 47.44 in the 400 meters at the Lenoir-Rhyne Last Chance Meet in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
In addition to his accolades during the 2024 outdoor season, McGill was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed third at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. He also placed second in the conference in the 400-meter hurdles as a true freshman.
Johnson will arrive in Denton after a successful high school career at Mansfield Lake Ridge. His performance took off as a senior highlighted by a sixth-place finish in the triple jump at the UIL 6A State Championship meet.
His season and career best mark in the triple jump came at the regional meet when he posted a jump of 14.66 meters that would be the best jump by a UNT male at an outdoor meet this season. Johnson also cleared 6-2 in the high jump during the 2024 outdoor season.
