DENTON, Texas – Two days after signing Sam Houston State transfer Hendrick Hundl, UNT track and field bolstered its 2024-25 roster even more with a pair of in-state transfers. Derrick Warren, a teammate of Hundl at Sam Houston State, is a welcomed addition to the men's team as a sprinter and jumper, while Morgan Taylor will run hurdles at UNT after three seasons at SFA.
Warren wrapped up his second season of competition with the Bearkats in 2024 where he advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the long jump. The Manor, Texas, native also ran in the 60 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters and both relay events at Sam Houston State and will continue doing both sprints and jumps at UNT.
He will immediately contribute to the Mean Green jumpers after taking second in the long jump at the Conference USA Indoor Championships and fourth at the outdoor meet. His career-best jump of 7.53 meters came at the 2023 WAC Outdoor Championships when he was a true freshman.
Taylor finds her way to Denton after completing her junior season at SFA. The hurdler primarily focuses on the 60-meter and 100-meter hurdles but has run the 200 and relay events in her career as well. Back in 2022, she blazed to a personal best 13.73 in the 100-meter hurdles. In March, Taylor took second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Bill Schmidt Classic that is hosted by UNT.
An all-conference performer in the WAC, Taylor placed second in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2023 Indoor Championships, clocking an 8.48 after setting a new PR of 8.47 in the preliminary round.
