DENTON, Texas — The UNT women's basketball team is set to host in-state foe Rice on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CT in The Super Pit.
North Texas, sitting at 12-5 overall and 4-1 in American Athletic Conference play, will look to keep pace among the conference leaders. The Mean Green handed South Florida its first conference loss of the season on Saturday, 72-65, leaving UTSA as the only undefeated team in the conference.
Tommisha Lampkin showed why she was one of the preseason players of the year in the conference against USF. She tied a career high with 29 points, while converting 11-of-12 attempts from the field to become the only UNT player in at least 20 years to score more than 25 points with a field goal percentage of better than 90% in a game. Lampkin earned a spot on the AAC's Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time this season following Saturday's performance.
Rice enters Wednesday's contest at 9-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play following its 70-59 win over Memphis on Sunday. The Owls are led by Preseason All-AAC First Team selection Malia Fisher who is averaging 12.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season.
The teams split last season's meetings with North Texas going on the road to defeat Rice, 63-54, on March 2, 2024, in the regular season. However, Rice got the last laugh in the quarterfinals of the AAC Championship as the Owls upset UNT, 61-59, and went on to clinch their berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Wednesday's content will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. The game can also be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb.
