Jaaucklyn Moore led all scorers with 23 points
NEW ORLEANS – The UNT women's basketball team dropped its first conference game of the season Wednesday night in a 65-62 loss at Tulane.
After trailing by 18 at halftime, North Texas found itself leading for the first time in the game with five minutes to play during an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter. UNT's lead would grow to 60-55, but was quickly erased when Tulane responded with a 9-0 run of its own. Jaaucklyn Moore had a look to tie the game as the clock ran out, but couldn't convert the contested 3-point attempt.
Moore led the Mean Green with 23 points and neared a double double finishing with nine rebounds. Eleven of her points came in the third quarter when UNT outscored Tulane 24-8 to battle back into the game.
Aniyah Johnson posted a career-high 14 rebounds in the loss as she approached a second-straight double double coming two points shy. Desiree Wooten and Ereauna Hardaway both scored in double figures with 10 points apiece.
Tommisha Lampkin tied Brittney James with 123 games played in her decorated career, marking the second most in program history. The senior forward posted eight points and nine rebounds on the night.
Sherese Pittman led Tulane with 20 points, while Kyren Whittington complemented her with 15 points of her own.
UNT (11-5, 3-1 AAC) will look to return to the win column Saturday when it hosts South Florida at 2 p.m. CT inside The Super Pit. It will be the first of three home games on the week for the Mean Green.
