Chanthapanya Paces UNT Through Two Rounds At Jim West Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – UNT women's golf senior Malisone Chanthapanya paced her Mean Green on Sunday through the first two rounds of the Jim West Challenge. Chanthapanya shot a 143 (-1) over the two rounds and sits in a tie for 10th place on the player leaderboard heading into the final round on Monday.
On Sunday Chanthapanya shot a 71 (-1) in the second round at Kissing Tree Golf Course. It was just two strokes off her career-best single round. The Fort Worth native has had just one top-10 finish in her Mean Green career.
Chanthapanya's strong second round led the way for North Texas who as a team made an 11-stroke improvement from round one to round two. UNT shot a 289 (+1) in round two. Juniors Bouquet Subsomboon and Katharina Anglett also had strong second rounds as they each shot a 72 (E). Subsomboon improved her score by one stroke from round one to round two while Anglett made a nine-stroke improvement.
On hole five in the first round Subsomboon recorded her third career eagle and first of the season.
Through two rounds UNT's score of 589 has them in eighth place of the 14-team event that features two programs ranked in the top 25. North Texas heads into Monday ahead of No. 38 Ohio State and No. 72 Notre Dame as well as UTSA who the Mean Green were paired with.
Play on Monday begins at 8:30 AM.
