Mestemaker Wins Two Awards For UTSA Performance

UNT QB added to O'Brien Watch List, Claims Walk On Award
UNT redshirt freshman Drew Mestemaker was added to the Davey O'Brien Award Midseason Watch List on Tuesday by way of being selected to the Great 8 quarterbacks list for Week 8 in college football. He was also awarded the Burlsworth Trophy Walk On of the Week, awarded weekly to the nation's top former or current walk-on player.
Mestemaker threw for 277 yards in Saturday's 55-17 Homecoming rout of rival UTSA and accounted for a career-high five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) and it was his third game this season with at least three touchdown passes.
Through seven games, Mestemaker has passed for 1,860 yards and 17 touchdowns with just three interceptions while completing nearly 67% of his pass attempts. He has also rushed for four touchdowns.
The Mean Green (6-1, 2-1 American) will travel to Charlotte for a game on Friday night at 6 p.m., which will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
