Mean Green Look to Remain Unbeaten in Early Stages of Season

DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team will host Nelson University in the third of four consecutive home games to open the 2025-26 season Thursday at 6 p.m. CT at The Super Pit.
The Mean Green cruised to two dominant wins in the first week of the season, averaging 97.5 points per game while shooting over 58% from the field. In the 106-36 win over Oklahoma Christian, UNT knocked down 12 threes, the third most in a game in program history. Through two games, North Texas has knocked down 21 3-pointers at a clip of 58.3% that leads the nation.
Tiffany Hammond is the leading scorer for the Mean Green at 15.5 points per game, but three other players also average double figures. Nelson brings in a similar offensive attack with five players scoring in double figures on the season. The Lady Lions are 4-0 on the season in NAIA play, but fell to SFA 88-54 on Nov. 3.
Thursday's matchup will be streamed on ESPN+ with James Trietley and Brian Burton on the call. The game can also be heard on the Varsity Network app with Sam Kaman.
