FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The UNT cross country team will compete on Friday at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship at Agri Park on the campus of Arkansas.
The men's side will be led by sophomore Joseph Wienen, sophomore Nolan House, junior Connor Bartek, junior Alan Proenza, sophomore Hunter Hendry and sophomore Matthew Montgomery. The women, which have been facing injury struggles throughout the season, will field a lineup of junior Aditi Silwal, senior London Culbreath, sophomore Ella Bengtsson, freshman Aubrey Milam, who was named to the All-Freshman Team at the American Championships on Nov. 1, and freshman Baylee Tapley.
The women's 6k will begin at 9 a.m., while the men's 10k will run at 10 a.m.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how we handle 10k this week on the men's side," cross country coach Erik Stevens said. "I think that it suits the way we race a little more than 8k. We will still need to position ourselves well and execute the middle stages of the race. We won't have anyone racing that hasn't contested that distance this year so that will help the confidence levels. On the women's side, it has been a roller coaster of a year and I have been very pleased with how this group has handled it. I know that these ladies will approach this race with the same level of confidence and enthusiasm that they have been, which will allow for a solid result."
