FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The UNT cross country teams wrapped up their season on Friday at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
The men's team finished 11th of 23 scoring teams - one spot better than its finish last season - behind a strong effort in the 10k race, led by Joseph Wienen. Wienen finished 48th in the race in a personal-best time of 31:41.2, followed by Nolan House, who finished 55th in 31:51.4. Connor Bartek, Alan Proenza, Hunter Hendry, Aidan Shannon and Matthew Montgomery rounded out the men's finishers, while Hendry and Shannon also notched personal bests.
"I'm very happy with the way we raced today on both sides," cross country Erik Stevens said. "The men finally came together as a unit and executed pretty well through 8k, and then it became a battle of who was going to be tougher. We won a lot of those battles today."
On the women's side, Aditi Silwal led the way with a 69th-place finish in 22:18 in the 6k race. She was followed by Aubrey Milam, who followed up her All-Freshman showing at the American Conference Championship two weeks ago by finishing 91st in 22:36.9. Ella Bengtsson, London Culbreath and Baylee Tapley rounded out the women's finishers.
"On the women's side, we got out well and stayed in good positions but we did struggle in some spots a little later in the race," Stevens said. "Overall, with four out of the five returning, I think we set ourselves up well for next season. I'm extremely proud of the ladies for working through all of the injuries that we had this season and can't be happier with the mentality of the group."
