Women's Golf Finishes Play in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - The UNT women's golf team wrapped up play at the Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club on Tuesday after shooting a final-round 9-over 297 to finish in 12th place out of a loaded field featuring 11 top-40 teams.
The Mean Green were led over the three-day event by sophomore Bouquet Subsomboon, who ended the event in a tie for 18th place at even-par. The Mean Green had one other top-40 finisher in junior Mason Lewis, who finished tied for 39th at 5-over for the tournament.
UNT will now take a few weeks off before heading to Humble, Texas, for The Chevron Collegiate, which will be played at the Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 24-25.
"I think the team learned a lot in Puerto Rico," head coach Michael Akers said. "We showed signs of getting back to our top-40 form. This field was loaded, and I would have been satisfied with a top-9 finish. We certainly were right there. Shreya is the biggest key for us, and this was her first event in four months. It looks like she will be fine for the spring, healthwise. We have time now to really prepare for Houston, which is a course we know well."
