Track & Field Heads to Charlie Thomas Invitational
2/7/2025 11:37:00 AM | Track & Field/XC
DENTON, Texas — UNT track and field will head to College Station, Texas, to compete at the Charlie Thomas Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Mean Green will send a small group of only 15 athletes to get some action before the final regular season meet of the season next weekend. The Charlie Thomas Invitational was a late add to the schedule to replace the McFerring 12-Degree Invitational that UNT was unable to compete at on Jan. 10 as originally scheduled. The meet will host a competitive field of teams, including Baylor, Texas A&M, Houston, SMU, TCU, Mississippi State and others.
LAST TIME OUT
North Texas took a smaller group to the UW Invite in Seattle, Wash., but still saw similar success to the first two meets of the season. Both the men's and women's DMR teams broke the indoor school records at the meet, making it five program records to have fallen through three meets this season. UNT also managed to capture two individual event titles with Aariyana Williams winning the women's 400 meters and Derrick Warren taking first in the men's 60-meter dash.
MEAN GREEN IN THE RANKINGS
- The UNT men's track and field team held steady at No. 9 in the NCAA South Central Regional rankings this week. The Mean Green had not been ranked inside the Top 10 since the 2021 season until the Jan. 28 rankings.
- Led by Jaylen Washington, who holds the No. 6 time in the country at 6.55, the men's 60 meters position group is ranked No. 15 in the country by USTFCCCA.
