COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A small group of UNT track and field athletes wrapped up competition at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
Jeremiah Durham was the highest finisher among the 13 athletes who participated at the meet. The true freshman excelled in the 60 meters, advancing through the prelims and semifinals by clocking personal bests in both rounds with a 6.78 in the semis being his best time of the weekend. He went on to place seventh in the finals with a time of 6.85.
Rayona Runnels also earned a top-10 finish for the Mean Green. Her mark of 5.86 meters in the long jump was her best jump of the season and was good for eighth place.
In addition to Durham, throwers Morgan Haywood and Rachone Stigarll set personal bests on the weekend. Haywood kicked off the meet for North Texas in the women's weight throw with a mark of 16.13 meters, while Stigarll followed suit in the men's weight throw competition with a mark of 16.05 meters.
"I was mostly happy with the opportunities we were able to take advantage of this week," head coach Doug Marshall said. "We got a chance to see where a few people were at before going into the final week of the regular season. Heading to Texas Tech will be our final tune up before conference so I'm excited to finish the season strong."
The Mean Green will wrap up their regular season slate next weekend at the Jarvis Scott Invite. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday from the campus of Texas Tech University.
