Tennis Battles in Loss to No. 68 UTSA

North Texas led until late in the match against No. 68 UTSA Saturday
SAN ANTONIO — The UNT women's tennis team narrowly lost 4-3 to No. 68 UTSA Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.
North Texas (5-6) took the doubles point and led until the final two matches of singles play. The Roadrunners (14-1) won at line six and shortly after at line three to clinch the match.
"Today we fell short, but I'm proud of the big strides our team is taking," UNT head coach Amanda Stone said. "We competed hard, we were loud, and we really fought together — huge improvement in winning the doubles point."
The Mean Green won the doubles point for the first time in two matches with Olivia Malm and Gianna Pielet taking a 6-1 win at line one followed by Lou Chalard and Lilly Schultz winning 6-4 at line two.
Lou Chalard extended UNT's lead to 2-0 to begin singles play, winning 6-1, 6-2 at line four. UTSA then won at lines one and two to tie the match at 2-2.
Olivia Malm improved to 5-3 in singles with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at line five to give the Mean Green a 3-2 lead.
However, the Roadrunners closed the match with wins at line six and line three in a come-from-behind victory.
North Texas returns home Wednesday, March 5 at 2:30 p.m. in its next match in a twice rescheduled contest with UT Arlington. Streaming and stats will be available on MeanGreenSports.com
