Mean Green were defeated 4-2 by Tulane
DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team's run in the American Athletic Conference championship tournament came to an end Thursday with a 4-2 loss to Tulane.
North Texas (11-11) fought hard in doubles play, losing close matches at lines one and two.
At line one, Lou Chalard and Lilly Schultz fell 6-4 before Stadfany Nformi and Stanislava Shulzhenko went to advantage at line two, losing 7-6 (8-6).
Singles play saw the Green Wave (12-10) take a 6-4-6-1 win at line three to extend their lead to 2-0.
Carolina Laydner then got a point back for UNT with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at line five. The win was Laydner's sixth consecutive in games which reached a decision.
After Tulane took a win at line six, Nformi won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) at line two to make it a 3-2 match.
A tightly contested match at line one saw Gianna Pielet take a 6-3, 1-6, 4-6 loss, which clinched the match for the Green Wave.
UNT is expected to return six of its eight players next season. The Mean Green saw four players win double-digit singles match wins this season.
