DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team signed reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year Je'Shawn Stevenson on Friday.
The 6-foot-2 guard is following his head coach Daniyal Robinson from Cleveland State to the Mean Green. Robinson was hired as North Texas' head coach on April 4.
"We are thrilled to welcome Je'Shawn Stevenson to the Mean Green family," Robinson said. "Je'Shawn is a mature, physical guard, with a chip on his shoulder. His efforts on the court last season at Cleveland State earned him the Horizon League Freshmen of the Year and a spot on the All-Freshmen Team. His future remains bright due to his relentless work ethic, positive attitude, and his want to excel both on the court and in the classroom. We look forward to being apart of Je'Shawn's continuous development as a student athlete. Please welcome Je'Shawn to the Mean Green family."
Stevenson was named the 2025 Horizon League Freshman of the Year after averaging 9.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.0 assists per game for Cleveland State last year. The Chicago native scored in double figures in 17 games last season and scored 20 or more twice. He became the first CSU player to earn the Horizon League Freshman of the Year honor since 2013 when eventual NBA guard Bryn Forbes took home the award.
Stevenson came off the bench in all 36 games for the Vikings last year and knocked down 39 3-pointers and shot 84.3 percent at the free throw line.
He is a graduate from Lindblom High School on the southside of Chicago. He is his prep school's all-time leading scorer. He averaged 25.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He was named First Team All-State and All-City.
